    Grier Dislocates Shoulder

    December 03, 2000

By SportsTicker-- Edmonton Oilers right wing Mike Grier, who is second on the team with nine goals, dislocated his left shoulder in Sunday night's 3-3 tie with the San Jose Sharks.

Grier suffered the injury eight minutes into the third period when he was checked into the boards. He will have an MRI on Monday and is out indefinitely, although he said after the game the injury is not too bad.

The blow came at a bad time for Edmonton, which had its unbeaten streak extended to three games (0-2-1) and remained third in the Northwest Division.

"We're facing a little adversity in our season right now," coach Craig MacTavish said. "I don't think there's any teams that get through 82 games without doing that. And then when Mike Grier went down with a shoulder injury, it just compounded things and added to the funk we've been going through the last three games."

Grier has gotten off to a strong start in his fifth NHL season, recording nine goals, eight assists and a plus-4 rating in 29 games. He also is tied for the team lead with two shorthanded goals.

A product of Boston University and native of Detroit, Grier has 62 goals and 77 assists in 321 NHL games -- all with Edmonton. He had a career-high 20 goals two seasons ago.
