    Men's Gymnastics Takes a Hit

    August 16, 2001

    By Sheila Dwyer, Shoulder1 Staff

Morgan Hamm, a 2000 Olympian gymnast, was forced to sit out this year’s U.S. Gymnastics Championships at Temple University due to a shoulder injury.

Missing this meet means that Hamm will not be able to qualify for the world championships in Ghent, Belgium, scheduled from October 28th to November 4th of this year.

Until earlier this month, Hamm was expected to compete in one or two events at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships to preserve a spot on the world championships team. But his injury was deemed too severe to risk competition. His coach suggests that Hamm may be out for another four months. Hamm placed seventh in the floor exercise at the last Olympics.

Hamm’s twin brother Paul, also a gymnast, is suffering from a broken right leg. He was able to compete on the still rings on Friday night to ensure a spot on the world championships team.
