"I chose Orthopedic surgery while a junior in high school after having an injury and doing a project in Physics class. I loved the idea of being able to "fix" people. I am proud to be involved with several professional and college teams, including the NBA's Phoenix Suns, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and Arizona State University.
When asked about the future of sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, Dr. Bailie is, in a word, "excited."
"With new bioengineering concepts, I think that things will change drastically in the next 5-10 years. My personal challenges are to assist with the advancement of state of the art surgical and noninvasive techniques in the treatment of Orthopedic Sports Medicine-related diseases (and) injuries. "
"I see (Shoulder1.com) as being very important in the dissemination of accurate information to the consumer. This is of tremendous importance to me. The most important way to provide the correct information is to support the information with the available research. Patients need to know what are considered "medical fact" and not just opinions. This can be very difficult, particularly when the literature conflicts. In the clinical setting, all current treatment rationales should be presented for the problems in question and physicians should help to education their patients not just given them a diagnosis and one of two options for treatment."
