I don't know the answer to that question but one thing is for sure, there's no turning back from a replacement. I still don't even understand why it was recommended. Rotator cuff repairs and clavical resectioning are pretty common procedures and a lot easier to recover from. I've had both procedures done at the same time. I'm not completely pain free but I have gone back to swimming which is part of the reason I'm not pain free. I have full range of motion and functional shoulders so that's half the battle.

Have you had an MRI with contrast dye? You need to do that before you do anything. But before I would agree to any surgery you need to get opinions from another orthopedic surgeon or two. I would never agree to a reverse replacement for a rotator cuff tear. That sort of thing can be sewn back together. A the very least get the thing scoped to find out what you're dealing with but don't agree to any major surgery.

Six years ago, I was diagnosed with a bone spur, impingement, a conplete tear of the supraspinatus tendon and arthritis in my right shoulder. I am right-handed. Rotator surgery was recommended which entailed a 6 month recovery period. Because of family issues, I didn't want the downtime. I continued playing golf, gardening and using my dhoulder normally. I did have some pain but that pain was less of a problem than my back, neck and knee pain. I was not really handicapped in any way other than doing the swimming crawl. About a month ago, I made a bad golf swing and felt pain over my deltoid and the front of my shoulder. Twice, I thought that it was healed and returned to golf with the pain returning to the front of my shoulder on the followthrough. I returned to my shoulder specialist. He took an X-Ray and examined my strength and flexibility. He said that he didn't think that I had a tear but my problem was arthritis and I needed a complete shoulder replacement. I am very concerned about putting metal in my body since I'm allergic to jewelry and even gold posts that were inserted in my teeth coused pain and eventually loosened. Has anyone had similar pain and was it relieved by arthosccopic surgery instead of a replacement? My thinking is, that if a want to get rid a all arthritis pain, I would have to replace most of the joints in my body. Also, if I do have a rotator cuff tear, which can only be determined conclusively with the surgery, a reverse joint replaceemnt would be done. Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone with metal allergies had a replacement?
