Hi Tim, That makes sense, the arthritis is in the GH joint. Yes a Hemi could help with that, but I'd probably try a debridement first, then consider either a resurfacing or a hemi replacement. Both are highly successful, I've seen both and the results are great. At your age, depending on your activity level you could go either direction with the same result (if high, I'd opt for the resurfacing, if moderate i'd go for the hemi).

Thanks, I am seeing my treating orthopedic surgeon on the 15th of March 10 who completed my last surgery. From my x-rays since 2005 then second x-rays in 2008 my arthritis is getting worse. He says since I am 46 years old eventually a partial shoulder replacement maybe an option if my shoulder continues to get worse. I just wanted another opinion. Tim

I would recommend not trying to guess at what it is, OA progresses slowly, but 5 years is a long enough time that it could be other things. There is a decision tree for finding out what the pain is and what can be done that surgeons follow, I would start by seeing one you trust and getting a plain film X Ray and physical exam on the shoulder.

I have had two surgeries on my right shoulder one was for impingement and the other for a tear. The first one was in 2001 and the second was in 2005. I still deal with pain and inflammation if I rotate my arm or if I extend my arm out. I also have a lot of weakness in my subacromial area and muscles around my shoulder. I try to stretch and do my strengthening, similar to my physical therapy. I have osteoarthritis. Would it cause instability in the muscles and tendons in my shoulder? I also had three shoulder surgeries on my left arm and have had pretty good luck. Any ideas?
