Wear and tear injuries tend to show up in both joints so it's not that unusual that you have pain in both shoulders. Mine went to hell at about the same time but I had been doing a lot of swimming. Make sure you're seeing an orthopedic surgeon and get them evaluated separately. You also need to keep in mind that problems in your neck can cause pain in your shoulders so if nothing shows up in shoulder MRIs then you need to have an MRI of your neck. You'd probably benefit from a good physical therapist that can evaluate your posture. It's possible that just changing your position when you're sitting at your desk will help a lot. My PT was great about working with posture related problems and also showing me how to strengthen the little muscles in my back and shoulders.

I am not a orthopedic surgeon but from you are saying here I have had the same problem with both my shoulders. Sounds to me like you have impingement syndrome. Very painful. I suggest the doctor first of all. NO HEAT it just aggravates and inflames it; try your best not sleep on it and no overhead use: hard to do. I have had 5 shoulder surgeries two were for impingement syndrome. Good luck.

Any insight to this...? Started as sharp pain in right shoulder, difficult puting on coats, shirts etc, limit range of motion starting around Spring this year 09. Received cortisone shots in right shoulder. Pain returned and received shot again in October. Pain is back but now both shoulders have pain especially when sleeping, and not necessarily sleeping on side or shoulders. Applied heat and a gel prescibed (voltrin???) and the heat intensifies the pain. To stop the pain I have to sleep with back elevated and arms at side. The pain can be dull sharp in the right arm to an agonizing continous pain in right or both shoulders that's not relieved until I positions both arms down with back up. This pain wakes me up at night. Both shoulders have grinding/ clicking but not necessarily painful when hear the noise. OTher info in case helps...no accidents, was experiencing neck pain( 3-4 months) this year, but it's gone but neck now click/grinds alot. Right knee will candidate for replacement soon (high school injury) and left has torn minscus (clipped by falling fan at football game 2 yrs ago. I'm 53 female, desk job.
