out dated surgery
Many years ago, my shoulder completely dislocated during contact sports on three separate occasions. As a result, I received a reconstructive surgery that was supposedly "innovative". I was 18 years of age (I am now 34). My sugery was called a magneusen stack (spelling may not be correct). It was supposed to help me increase my range and stablility in my throwing arm (I played collegiate softball). The stability part worked (as I had some ligament cut out, some tissue "stacked" and a staple to hold my shoulder in place) but my range has been significantly restricted since. I cannot throw normally or comfortably. I look more like I am shot putting. This was particurlary trying as I was an outfielder and could not get much velocity on my throws. I understand that only 100 others received the surgery I received before doctors stop performing this type of surgery. As stated above, I have not had a dislocation since. I have been relatively pain free with the exception of my muscle tissue catching or "snaggimg" on my staple from time to time (which cause pain and temporarily prevents me from moving my shoulder). Tis particulary happens when I attempt to reach behind or above me for something. It is actually a bit frightening. I wonder if anyone else out there reading this had the same surgery that I had?? I wonder if anyone has information about anyone else who has had this surgery or there is research related to the results of it.
