VERY PAINFUL SHOULDER
I lifted an overnight bag from the boot of my car about 8 month ago. At the time I heard a funny sound like a tear coming from my shoulder area,
After that I had a little discomfort, not much at all.
Over the following few weeks the pain got worse but I had full movement of the shoulder. I had a Cortisone injection, and after immediate relief for about 6 to 8 weeks the pain came back worse. I then had an Xray, this is the result,
Glenohumeral articulation satisfactory
subacromial space is preserved
Acromion process has a type 1 configuration
There is a little bony lipping near its margin and also some sclerosis abou the greter tuberosity.
No rotator cuff calification is seen.
ULTRASOUND SCAN REVEALS:
The bicepts tendon is normally located within the bicipital groove. Some fluid is noted in realtion to the biceps tendon sheath.
The tendon itself appears satisfactory, however, an area of altered echogenicity is noted in relation to the anterior portion of the supraspinatus tendon and this is consistent with a partial tear approx 1 cm from the bicepts tendon. Elsewhere the rotator cuff appears satisfactory and no impingement is seen.
Since then I have had 2 more cortizone injections, the second one releived the pain for about 5 weeks, the third one did nothing to ease the pain.
Has anyone any ideas on what I can do to relieve the pain?.
Maybe this needs surgery, my GP want's to send me to a shoulder surgeon, but I don't want unecessary surgery at this stage.
Any advise would be appreciated.
